Volvo XC60 and XC90 update their range in Spain with Mild Hybrid versions

Volvo continues with its plans to build a line-up adapted to the new times, which means it is launching in the Spanish market the two Mild Hybrid versions of its most popular SUVs, the Volvo XC60 and XC90. These mild hybrids are offered in both petrol and diesel versions and join the range of plug-in hybrids that the brand already sells.

One of the main features is the inclusion of the letter B (for Battery) in the model name, instead of the T that defined the petrol version and the D, which did the same for the diesel versions. The combustion engine of each version is accompanied by a 10 kW electric motor that features an advanced energy recovery system through braking to charge the 48-volt battery.

As with all mild-hybrid models, this energy is used to improve engine efficiency and achieves a fuel saving of up to 15%. The electric motor powers elements such as the steering, air conditioning and other devices that do not need the energy produced by the combustion engine to operate.

The variants using this system are the Volvo XC60 B4, which features a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 197 CV, with the added 10 kW electric motor, all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The XC60 B5 has a 2.0-litre diesel engine tuned to deliver a power output of 235 CV, also paired with the 10 kW electric motor, and shares it with the XC90.

Finally, the XC60 and the XC90 B5 also have a 2.0-litre petrol engine that gives the model a power output of 250 CV, also combined with all-wheel drive and the 8-speed automatic gearbox. In the XC60 range, diesel and petrol models will coexist with the new Mild Hybrid versions, while in the XC90 range they will directly replace the drive-mode options.
