VW Kombi Last Edition: the farewell of a legend

Kombi 1

These days one of the best-known vehicles in history is saying goodbye. It is the VW Kombi, the van based on the Transporter T2 that is still manufactured and sold in countries such as Brazil.

56 years after the start of its production, the VW Kombi is bringing its journey to an end, bowing out with a special edition called “Last Edition” that will consist of just 600 units.

After so many years on sale, the Kombi will disappear for the simple reason that next year it will no longer meet the new safety regulations being introduced in Brazil, which would force the brand to make a considerable outlay to adapt it, an outlay VW does not consider profitable.
600 units numbered by a commemorative plate inside, which will carry forward the piece of automotive history that their owners will now drive.

The interior of the van is modified also with the inclusion of the aforementioned plate, a light-toned sky upholstery and rear windows with blinds, all as standard. Some modern touches are also included, such as connectivity for the iPod.
Furthermore, and to give it a more retro style, the Kombi Last Edition fits tyres with white sidewalls, a very characteristic detail of the first units.

The engine does not change from the traditional Kombi, and it remains the 1.4-litre four-cylinder, which delivers 68 CV of power. This has been the only engine available since 2005, when it replaced the traditional air-cooled 1.3-litre four-cylinder.
