Wheels for Audi: More than aesthetics, a safety element

Llanta

Contrary to what one might think, wheels are, in addition to an aesthetic element, a basic element for safety. The light alloy wheels of Audi undergo exhaustive supervision during their development by the quality control department. Materials technology specialists supervise the process from conception until they reach the customer.

To meet the stringent requirements of Audi, a light alloy wheel must pass a demanding series of tests. A sequence of examinations of material, surface and strength. The radiological examination, for example, detects casting defects, anomalies and cracks. The cornering test simulates that path under extreme lateral forces. In the simulation of a sudden jump over a kerb, the wheel flanges must withstand heavy impacts without breaking. Audi wheels stand out in these cases for their robustness, as they are hardened using a special technique that improves both strength and elasticity.

But wheels must not only withstand the demanding functionality tests. The German brand subjects these components to a rigorous durability test, with a very harsh corrosion test in which acids and temperatures aggravate the conditions of use. The paint adhesion test lasts 240 hours, carried out at 100% air humidity. The programme is completed with a stone impact test and examinations that measure resistance to chemical agents, weathering and light.

Having seen the demanding tests that Audi wheels pass, we are in a position to assure you that any component that makes up a Audi model will have supreme quality and will be manufactured with the most modern technologies.
