The automotive sector is not immune to the reach of the tech giant. Would you like to know which brand has been the most googled in 2021? We’ll tell you.
2021 has been the year of Toyota. For the second year in a row, the Japanese brand has risen to become the most searched car brand on Google. It was searched for in 47 of the 154 countries represented, which is 31% of the total. In turn, BMW also takes second place for the second year in a row.
Toyota reigns for another year
The German manufacturer was the most searched in 29 countries, while the star brand ranks third with a presence in 23 countries. The podium formed by Toyota, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have contested the title over the last four years.
If we look at the ranking closely, the Bavarian brand was the most searched in 2019 and was the most famous in 118 countries. Despite achieving first place in 2019, the German manufacturer has proven to be one of the most searched brands for four years.

Tesla also made its mark in 2021. Elon Musk’s electric car brand has become the most searched on Google in countries such as Hong Kong, Israel, Macau, Singapore and China. It also appears in the list as second or third in Austria, the Bahamas, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Croatia, Finland, Guinea, Iceland, Kuwait and Madagascar, among others.
Brands such as Suzuki, Hyundai or Audi have increased their searches compared to the same period of 2020. Rolls-Royce has been the most searched brand since 2028 in at least one country. Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi or Volkswagen have not appeared as the top search in any of the 154 countries in the sample. Peugeot, Ford, Nissan and Volvo have lost some momentum in terms of search interest during the past year of 2021.

We will have to wait until January 2022 to see whether drivers’ interest remains the same around the world or whether the tables have turned. What do you think?
