Will the Acura NSX get a younger sibling?

Honda is planning the launch of a smaller NSX with all-wheel drive and a mid-engine layout, which would reach the market after the hybrid Acura NSX, perhaps in 2017.

News from the headquarters in Japan of Honda, which has been very busy lately shaping the next NSX, with a grand return. But the NSX is not the whole story: the Japanese brand is also set to enter the compact coupé game.

According to Motor Trend, the Mini-NSX (that is the model’s internal name) will be a smaller version of the NSX with a mid-mounted engine and all-wheel drive (the SH-AWD system from Honda), with a practically unknown powertrain, since it is said that it could also be a hybrid, just like its big brother, the NSX.

Among the engine options there are some worth considering, such as the 2.4-litre or even the 3.5-litre V6, candidates for this model, which is intended to be sold mainly in the USA and Canada.

According to sources at Honda, the platform to be used will hardly differ at all from that of the NSX, due to development cost reasons. You could exaggeratedly see it as a miniature NSX, arriving a couple of years after the hybrid NSX, in 2017. With that arrival date, we could meet the Mini-NSX in 2016, with tentative sale prices in the market of around 40,000 euros.
