XXI Porsche Grand Prix: emotion, awards and guests of honour
An exciting day for the members of the Porsche Club at the Jarama circuit. Luis Moya attended the event, and Porsche Ibérica spoke about the arrival of the new 911 in 2017.
The Jarama circuit was dressed up to host the XXI Porsche Grand Prix. This event, organised for the members of the Porsche Club Spain, had Luis Moya, former co-driver of Carlos Sainz in rallying, as its special guest. Moya addressed those present during the awards ceremony and recalled that during his time in competition, both Carlos Sainz and he used to drive Porsches for the driving quality they offered: “they are really good cars”, said the man from A Coruña.

During the day, almost all of the brand’s current models could be seen, with two 911 GT3 RS and a classic 911 whose owner is still competing at the age of 70 standing out. Despite the caution conveyed to the drivers during the briefing, there was no shortage of spins on what was a rather rainy day. Few were the fearless ones who switched off the electronic stability management system (PSM), which regulates the ABS, EBD and traction control.

The Grand Prix was organised by categories: endurance, consistency, karting, slalom and simulation. The drivers competed in each of the disciplines, and the main prize went to whoever achieved the best average across all categories. The winner took home an exclusive watch, Porsche design. In addition, various prizes and trophies were handed out to the best in each category and to those who set the fastest lap in each of them.

At the Jarama event there were also statements from Porsche Ibérica, which announced the arrival of a new generation of the 911 in 2017, which could be named 992. The company also wished to send a reassuring message about the brand’s future: “the driving sensations of our future cars will be the same. The cars will sound and smell like a Porsche,” the brand said.
