The Gaydon firm pays tribute to the cars that achieved the Le Mans milestone in 1956 with its Aston Martin DBS 59

Recently we came across the brand-new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Tag Heuer Edition, an ode to elegance, exclusivity and luxury. The British manufacturer is at one of the most glorious moments of its career.

So much so that, alongside the new models to be produced, with the Aston Martin Valkyrie as the ultimate expression of sportiness and extreme luxury of the immediate future, the manufacturer does not forget its victorious past linked to motorsport, with special editions such as this Aston Martin DBS 59.

60 years since the Le Mans victory

The purpose of the Aston Martin DBS 59 is to pay homage to two of its predecessors, the Aston Martin DBR1 driven by the famous Caroll Shelby and his teammate Roy Salvadori, who won the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the twin car, with Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frère sharing driving duties, which secured second place on the podium.

Based on the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, only 24 units of the Aston Martin DBS 59 will be built, one for each hour of the race that makes up the ultimate endurance test.

Aston Martin DBS 59 by Q

Besides being the letter that concealed the real name of the British intelligence character who supported James Bond, another mythical fictional figure linked to the history of Aston Martin, Q by Aston Martin is the department responsible for turning the demands of the most non-conformist customers into reality and for bringing limited production models such as this one to market.

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera that serves as the basis of the Aston Martin DBS 59 undergoes modifications that further enhance its image as an elegant sports car with high performance.

For example, the paintwork of this car takes the charismatic Racing Green so typically British, worn by those competition DBR1s of the last century and also by those of this one, contrasting with gloss black lacquered parts that appear at the front, such as the exclusive grille and the lower front lip, and on the sides, such as the wing mirrors, the pillars and the roof, made of carbon fibre.

A profile that concludes with a discreet spoiler over the boot lid, also made of this lightweight and resistant material, which features on its upper part the bronze silhouette of the Aston Martin winners of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, and below it the inscription with the name of the original chassis and the engine code of those DBR1s.

The ensemble rests on 21-inch wheels, topped off by the Q logo behind the front wheel arches and the Aston Martin logo, but with a background of the Union Flag on the front.

A racing atmosphere in full luxury

Inside the Aston Martin DBS 59 you can feel the usual atmosphere of luxury and sportiness that few manufacturers can combine with the mastery that Aston Martin is capable of.

For example, the leather seats of each of the 24 examples of the DBS 59 limited edition will replicate the originals and will feature embroidered number 59 adorned with the traditional laurel wreath that once crowned the winning drivers of the races.

As accessories, Q by Aston Martin offers a travel case and replicas of the gloves, overalls and helmet worn by the drivers who finished victorious after the 323 laps of the Sarthe circuit, for those who wish to complete this homage to the four heroes of the 1959 event.

The heart of the Aston Martin DBS 59

The engine of the Aston Martin DBS 59 is the same as in the original DBS Superleggera. This means the main unit is a 5.2-litre, 12-cylinder V engine producing 725 CV and 900 Nm, which sends its power to the rear axle through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

This mechanical package is capable of catapulting the car to a top speed of 339 km/h and completing a sprint from 0 to 100 in just 3.4 seconds, whose wonderful sound we invite you to hear in this video

As for the price of the Aston Martin DBS 59, the brand has not disclosed the figures, but it will undoubtedly exceed the more than 274,000 euros at which the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera starts.
