The Audi e-tron GTR will be the electric successor to the Audi R8
Audi is already working on the Audi e-tron GTR. An electric sports car as an alternative to the Audi R8
Audi not only maintains its commitment to the Audi R8 with a petrol engine but has recently paid tribute to the V10 engine of the R8 itself with a limited and exclusive edition in which the star is the engine that has made it possible to offer the performance of a racing car in a road car.
Be that as it may, Audi also bets on electric motors for the immediate future, which is why the Audi e-tron family keeps growing. From the presentation in 2018 of the Audi e-tron, to the next members, such as the Audi e-tron GT, and other future models, such as those suggested during the Super Bowl 2019 advertisements, the British magazine Car now brings us information about the electric sports car of Audi.
Far from producing the innovative Audi PB18 concept, which illustrates the header of this article and appears just above this paragraph, and which most likely will incorporate solutions presented in the show car, or from having maintained the commitment to developing the also prototype Audi R8 electric, Audi is already working on an alternative vehicle inspired by the Audi R8.
An alternative to the Audi R8 because it will be a fully electric car yet based on the concept, with the source of inspiration in the charismatic sports car with a combustion engine.
Audi e-tron GTR
Under the name Audi e-tron GTR we will know the electric version of the sports car conceptually related to the Audi R8.
This car is expected to be on the market in 2022. One year after the European Parliament committee enforces the emissions restriction that sets a maximum of 95 grams of carbon dioxide emitted per kilometre driven.
A condition that, according to the homologation figures of the Audi R8 Coupe V10 FSI quattro S tronic, which generates no more and no less than 293 g/km, the Audi R8 is far from meeting. That is why we find ourselves at a turning point for this model, which is possibly nearing the end of its life.
The Audi e-tron GTR would take up the baton in terms of sportiness and exclusivity for the Audi family that the Audi R8 offers and has offered during its presence in dealerships.
The architecture of the Audi e-tron GTR would be based on the electric vehicle platform of the Group Volkswagen J1 on which its relative, the Porsche Taycan, is already built, and would be assembled from a monocoque aluminium chassis.
The technology of the Audi e-tron GTR would be based on quattro all-wheel drive, the house trademark, thanks to having three electric motors that would share the work between the rear and front axles and generate more than 620 CV, or 500 kW, which the Audi R8 Coupe V10 FSI performance quattro S tronic offers.
The range of the Audi e-tron GTR would be over 500 km and its 95 kWh battery could be recharged without the need for cables.
