42% of Spaniards have considered replacing their private vehicle with a more sustainable solution
The Cetelem Observatory has carried out an in-depth study showing the population’s intentions to change in order to achieve greater sustainability

The recent report on Sustainability and Consumption by the Cetelem Observatory shows how a large part of the Spanish population is deeply concerned about climate change and its effects, and is willing to contribute to its mitigation by changing its mobility and consumption habits.
Furthermore, the current landscape, heavily shaped by increasingly strict anti-pollution laws, has made interest in electrified mobility alternatives increasingly relevant.
Today, there is a wide range of options if you are looking for an electric scooter, an electric bicycle, electric motorcycles and mopeds, or even private and commercial vehicles. But is the population truly willing to change its habits to improve sustainable urban mobility?
A large majority
Cetelem says it is: 71% of Spaniards consider it important to find a sustainable mobility option for everyday life. Of this percentage, 77% believe that actions should be taken in cities to regulate and improve sustainable mobility, and 83% think that public institutions should invest in eco-friendly means of transport.
But let us get to the main point. Of the 42% of Spaniards already mentioned who are willing to swap their private transport for a more sustainable alternative, 49% would turn to public transport, 19% to an electric vehicle, 39% to a bicycle and 23% to an electric scooter. The remaining 10% are not considering any alternative.
Hybrid vehicles: the most in demand
Focusing on purchase intentions for the next two years, 40% of respondents are considering replacing their current vehicle. Looking more closely, the most in-demand vehicle is the battery electric vehicle at 11%, followed by the plug-in hybrid at 10%, combustion engine vehicles at 9%, and full hybrids at 7%.
These figures clearly reflect the positive trend in demand for sustainable mobility alternatives, a sign of growing social awareness of the pollution problem.
