Most car enthusiasts have watched Top Gear at some point, and in particular some of its themed challenges and road trips in which Clarkson, Hammond and May had to tackle difficult tests at the wheel of a second-hand car bought on a limited budget.

That is how Top Gear put together that 2010 report in Germany, in which they took the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz 190, a Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth and a BMW M3 E36, three sports saloons bought with a budget of 5,000 pounds sterling each. The last of these is the star of the auction we bring you today.

Classic Car Auctions will offer for auction the 1996 BMW E36 M3 Evo from Top Gear, driven by Richard Hammond in 2010, with no known faults in the engine or the electrical system. The model also has 127,299 kilometres on the odometer, and it is expected to sell for between 10,428 and 14,600 euros, a high figure compared with other vehicles, but none of them can claim to have been driven by Hammond and “The Stig”.

One of the issues with this car is that it is a unit intended for the British market, so it has the steering wheel on the right-hand side. Also, those who remember the episode will recall that during an inspection carried out by the ADAC in the programme, this prestigious organisation determined that at some point in its life the car had been in an accident and had not been properly repaired.

Below you can rewatch the first part of the episode in which the BMW M3 appears, which will go up for auction on 6 June at the Exhibition Centre in Warwickshire, United Kingdom.
