A leak suggests that the new Tesla Model 3 Performance will incorporate a new, more powerful motor
The sense of speed this high-performance version will offer when pulling away from a standstill thanks to this new powertrain could be the reason behind a change in its name, from Model 3 Performance to Model 3 Ludicrous
The American manufacturer announced the renewal of the Model 3 at the start of last September. The brand’s most popular saloon debuted a new design at that time and received a good number of improvements. However, with its launch the high-performance Performance version of this model also disappeared from the market.
The publication just a few days ago of images of a unit that looked precisely like the long-awaited Performance version of the new Model 3 brought renewed hope to many fans of the company. Its market launch appears to be imminent, and everything points to the wait of these last six months having been worth it.

In addition to some aesthetic changes to give it a sportier look, new wheels and seats that hold the body better when taking bends on twisty roads at high speed, the new Model 3 Performance could substantially increase the combined power of its two motors by incorporating a completely new one on the rear axle.
That is at least what a leak published recently on X suggests, based on screenshots taken from documents published by the South Korean Ministry of Environment. Although the authenticity of these cannot be confirmed one hundred percent, if we consider them to be real, this would confirm the integration of a new rear motor called 4D2 on the rear axle of the new Model 3 Performance.
Hold on tight!
This new 406-horsepower electric motor will apparently be accompanied by the same 211-horsepower motor already incorporated in the previous generation of the high-performance version of the American manufacturer’s saloon. This would mean that the combined power of both motors could reach 618 horsepower. Although it is true that this figure is not always the direct result of adding the power of both motors and depends on various factors.

To get an idea of what this would mean, it is worth remembering that the Model 3 Performance that Tesla was sold until last September delivered a total of 505 horsepower, according to the manufacturer itself. In this way, the new generation of this model could offer up to 113 additional horsepower. An increase that, according to some sources, could be the reason behind the rumoured change of name, from Model 3 Performance to Model 3 Ludicrous.
The leaked document also indicates that the weight on the scales of this new motor would be the same, so this factor would not affect its efficiency. On the other hand, it is also stated that this new powertrain reaches its peak power at a higher speed, 110 km/h compared with the 75 km/h of the one previously fitted, which should result in a longer push in the quarter-mile test when pulling away from a standstill.
