A new, more technologically advanced Cupra Ateca 2020 enters its second commercial phase
The facelift and technological update of the Cupra Ateca 2020 represents a key bet on a model that has been central to the brand’s launch

Following the presentation of the SEAT Ateca, its sister brand, since it would hardly be appropriate to refer to CUPRA as a sub-brand, has presented its own version of the SUV, the Cupra Ateca 2020.
The first vehicle of Cupra’s new era as its own brand renews its commitment to crossovers as bodies to which to adapt the ‘racing formula’ that Cupra applied years ago to SEAT’s sportiest models, and which it now adapts on its own, even producing its own models, such as the other SUV that will add one more to the lineup, the Cupra Formentor, along with the third of them all, the Cupra Tarraco.
As a brand specialising in crossovers that it describes as sporty, the new Cupra Ateca 2020 retains its formidable and thrilling 2.0 TSI engine with the same power, 300 CV, and torque, 400 Nm, the same 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the same 4Drive all-wheel-drive system and the same DCC dynamic chassis technologies.
This configuration makes this car truly effective within its architecture as a high-performance crossover, capable of reaching 247 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
Be that as it may, the most substantial changes to this car come from its interior, since on the exterior, apart from the front light units, together with the grille and bumper, which is replicated at the rear, except for the obviously non-existent grille, nothing has been modified.
In terms of aesthetics and dynamics, it is possible to fit the thunderous exhaust, always a source of sensory improvements, signed by the Slovenian exhaust specialist Akrapovič. In addition, this new Cupra Ateca offers a wheel catalogue expanded to 6 options, all in 19 inches, including standard brakes or the high-performance set signed by Brembo.
As for the interior, first of all, the sports bucket seats are now standard, which is undoubtedly welcome when driving more at the limit, as they support and enhance the driving experience.
Likewise, the steering wheel now features larger paddle shifters, which is welcome since the previous ones were rather small, encouraging precise gear changes, especially when driving becomes more demanding and faster. And speaking of speed and the steering wheel, it is now possible to fit the Start/Stop button and the driving mode selector on it.
And regarding its use on the move, like its SEAT twin, the new Cupra Ateca features newly designed driver assistance systems and assistants, among which stand out pre-collision assist, adaptive cruise control (ACC) with predictive function, travel assist, emergency assist and lateral and exit assist, the adaptive cruise control (ACC) with predictive function that uses data supplied by the navigation system.
As for the merits and novelties of the Cupra Ateca 2020, the new multimedia system includes a larger screen, 9.2 inches instead of the 8 of the Digital Cockpit, and retains the screen of up to 10.25 inches in the centre of the dashboard, whose interaction can be via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and voice command instructions: after saying “Hola, hola” the assistant will then wait for an order.
The price of the new Cupra Ateca has not yet been announced, but its RRP will not differ much from the current one, which has been on sale for some time from 45,550 euros.
