Some drivers should reconsider the way they drive. It is obvious that anyone can momentarily lose focus and be “caught” doing 130 km/h on a road with a 120 km/h limit.

But there is a difference between a lapse of attention and the repeated commission of an offence on a road which, moreover, could easily lead to a tragedy.

This is the case of the Romanian driver who was caught a few days ago on one of the country’s main roads, the A2, driving his Porsche Cayenne at speeds far above those permitted in the country. However, what is striking about the news is not the speeding, although that too, but the persistence of the offence.

In just a few minutes, this individual was caught by three speed cameras, always travelling at speeds above 200 km/h. This is therefore a very serious breach of the law. The first detection was recorded at a speed of 232 km/h, the speed then being gradually reduced until he was subsequently detected at 220 and 202 km/h

However, all these offences will not go unpunished, since the Romanian authorities have sanctioned the driver by withdrawing his driving licence for a period of 9 months (3 months per fine).
In addition, he will have to pay 277 dollars per fine, a little over 200 €, totalling 831 dollars.

These are relatively harsh penalties for the 34-year-old driver, but they still fall short of the level we have in our country, where this man would have committed a very serious crime against road safety and could have ended up in prison. In cases as serious as the one we bring you today, penalties need to be exemplary and tough, so that drivers who endanger their own lives and those of others when they get behind the wheel think twice.
