Although it might seem that Saab’s recovery is on track and that the company has fallen into good hands with Spyker, the problems left by the company’s previous management continue to shed light on just how deep Saab’s financial difficulties had become. Now a Swedish municipality is demanding payment of 19.5 million dollars.

The plaintiff is the local government of Västra Götaland, the region in western Sweden where Saab’s main and largest factory is based. During Saab’s dark days, between the end of last year and the beginning of this one, the government of Västra Götaland provided that money to help cover the costs the factory was incurring and that Saab could not pay.

When asked about this new creditor added to the list, Victor Muller did not seem overly worried, saying that it was a legal matter that would be resolved in the most appropriate way and that there was nothing to worry about.

The truth is that the debt has already been taken over by the Swedish government itself, since the payment deadline of September 20 has passed and Saab has not paid a single cent.
