A whole car for kids and not-so-kids with the Saab Turbo 006

For those of us who are already past 30, we feel mixed emotions when we see the toys children can play with today. Why didn’t they exist when we were kids? It’s the obligatory question. As for cars, nobody dreamed of being able to drive a battery-powered toy car like today’s (I should clarify that there is no hidden meaning in the previous sentence), not even a go-kart, and those who had one or the other were the children of parents with a certain standing. But in 1986 Saab went beyond everything known in children’s toys and put the Saab Turbo 006 on sale.
The Turbo 006, also known as the Convertible Junior, was a little car powered by a four-stroke engine of 27 cm3 and 3.5 horsepower. The little engine had a rev limit of 2,200 RPM and a top speed of about 40 km/h,

The toy (although Saab insisted it was not a toy) was manufactured in Sweden and sold through Saab’s worldwide dealership network. Production was limited to 75 units, at a price of around $1,900, in 1986 money.
How I would have loved to drive one of these back then!
