A works driver is involved in a brutal crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, video

Last year, at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the Audi R-18s was out of the race after a collision while overtaking a Ferrari 458 Italia. Today, a year later, a works Toyota Hybrid driven by Anthony Davidson, former Formula 1 driver, was hit when he tried to pass on the inside of one of the cars built in Maranello.

Both cars went straight into the tyre barrier, but while the Ferrari arrived sliding along the ground, the Toyota went through the air, spinning as it went. After the brutal crash, both drivers were rushed to hospital while the Safety Car came out on track.

“The circuit doctors have confirmed that Anthony is in shock and has back pain, but there are no signs of any injury and he is walking and talking without any problem,” said Toyota in a statement.

For now we only know that the driver will stay in hospital until Monday for observation to rule out any problems.
