Since the Abarth brand was revived, rumours about a possible sports car developed as the flagship model have been persistent.

But recently the British magazine Autocar reports that Lotus and Fiat have reached a deal under which the platform of the next generation Elise could be used as the basis for the new sports car bearing the scorpion logo.

It would be a lightweight two-seater that would be available with two engines: a 1.4 L Turbo from the Grande Punto Abarth and a 1.8 L Turbo direct-injection unit from the new Lancia Delta.

According to the information, the new car would enter production in 2011 with a completely innovative design that would make it a machine worthy of the Abarths of old.
