96% of Spanish drivers do not know any of these acronyms: AEB, LKA, DDD, BSM
, and yet this technology can save lives, as well as reducing accidents with victims by almost 23,000 each year if this range of technology is used in combination.

This is all confirmed by the study carried out by Línea Directa “Study on Advanced Technological Systems for the Prevention of Road Traffic Accidents” in collaboration with the Centro Zaragoza (Vehicle Repair Research Institute).

According to this report, the use of autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, fatigue detection and blind spot monitoring could prevent more than 22% of the fatal accidents that occur each year in Spain.

In this way, this technology would save the lives of 420 people every year. In addition, its combined use would reduce accidents with victims by almost 23,000 each year (27.5%).

This study shows that these systems leave a lot to be desired in Spain: only 2% of the 22 million cars that make up the national vehicle fleet currently have any of them fitted. On the other hand, there has also been rapid growth in the range available from manufacturers, and it can be said that this technology is no longer the exclusive preserve of high-end vehicles.

With each of these technologies costing around 1,000 euros on average, although some of them can already be found on the market from 45 euros.

Finally, the report focuses on the 4 preventive driving systems most effective at reducing accident rates according to Euro NCAP tests. In addition, the range available on the market from 22 car brands was taken into account, which together represent 77% of cars registered in the last year.
