The V-27 signal will work in coordination with the V-16 light, using its geolocation to indicate the point where a vehicle is stopped.

We have recently learned that the emergency warning triangles will be replaced by the V-16 emergency light. This light, as we have already discussed in other articles, will serve to warn other vehicles on the road that the car is stopped on the hard shoulder. It is a very efficient system for warning of the presence of a stopped car on the road, and it means the driver does not have to get out of the car to place warning devices.

This system is optional and voluntary at the moment, but it will become mandatory from 2026. At that point it will also have to use a geolocation system to report the exact point where the vehicle has stopped. But this will not be the only emergency warning system that the most modern cars will be fitted with.

One of the elements that cars will have to be equipped with is the V-27 warning signal. This is a virtual signal that will issue a warning including a visual alert and information on the actual location of the vehicle stopped on the road or the hard shoulder. The V-27 signal will be linked to the V-16 signal, since the latter will incorporate the geolocation system.

The new emergency signalling system will be projected onto the instrument cluster, the multimedia screen or the Head-Up Display, so that it is perceived efficiently by the driver. In addition to this use, the signal may also be used to warn drivers of an accident or a roadworks zone. In this case the signal will be issued by the competent authority in each case, with information relating to each situation.

This virtual signal will only be projected to vehicles approaching the affected area, to warn them of the problem. By combining the two signals, other road users can be alerted and safety will be increased in the event of any kind of breakdown or risk situation.
