Aiways showcases the advantages of the MAS platform across its U5 and U6

Aiways uses its MAS platform for its fully electric models, and reveals some of its inner workings

With the arrival of Aiways in the European market, the brand has consistently sought to shed the “Chinese vehicle” label. Yes, it is a Chinese brand, but if you weren’t told or didn’t know, you would bet it was a leading reference brand. Examples of this are its models U5 and U6, the latter recently arrived on Spanish soil after launching sales, with an attractive design, quality, and equipment that matches its price, which is certainly not cheap.

But everything is not based on an attractive design and generous, technology-laden equipment. All of this needs to be backed up by quality components and engineering work that is also reflected in the driving pleasure. To this end, for its family of electric vehicles, Aiways has put the MAS platform (More Adaptable Structure) on the table, on which they are built, incorporating technical solutions that the company has wished to share.

It is clear that what may perhaps catch the eye in an electric vehicle is the performance of its motor at the same level as its battery, paying particular attention to its capacity, its range, and charging time. Aiways highlights that in its models we must also look at its powerful braking system, where, as you know, kinetic energy is generated, which electric vehicles harness to return to the battery and thus achieve greater range. In this regard, if we look at the Aiways U5, it achieves a maximum recuperation power of up to 140 kilowatts, while in the U6 this power rises up to 145 kilowatts.

Indeed, the braking process is controlled at all times by the Bosch iBooster brake booster, a second-generation, fully electromechanical unit. This brake booster, thanks to rapid pressure build-up, first guarantees a shorter braking distance in an emergency, but also an optimal feel of the brake pedal and better modulation during braking. Furthermore, the iBooster working together with the ESP 9.3 HEV, also from Bosch, guarantees in vehicles with the MAS platform decelerations of up to 0.3 G through recuperation alone, thus covering normal braking and achieving an energy consumption reduction of up to 20%.

The MAS platform design for the Aiways U5 and U6 places the motor in the same position and sends power to the front axle, which thus becomes the protagonist. However, the rear axle must not be forgotten, where a complex multi-link structure has been used to enhance the vehicle’s dynamics. Moreover, thanks to the use of aluminium components on this rear axle, an even lighter design is achieved compared with other systems.
