Alfa Romeo 4C Spider; open-air driving pleasure for the senses

4C Spider 5

Alfa Romeo presented at the NAIAS its first convertible since the Spider disappeared years ago. We are talking about the 4C Spider, the cabrio version of the small Italian sports car.

The 4C Spider arrives to become an object of desire for most mortals thanks to one of the most attractive designs of recent years.

Based on the closed version, the 4C Spider keeps the basic lines of the 4C, from which the roof has been removed and replaced by a fabric soft top. With the roof off, the 4C Spider becomes a “targa”-style vehicle with an irresistibly appealing look. The rest of the bodywork lines remain intact compared with the traditional 4C, which pleases us greatly considering that since its launch the Alfa 4C has been one of the most attractive cars of recent years. The Spider will be presented with slight variations compared with the closed version, such as some air outlets at the rear or more stylized front headlights.

Inside we find all the refinements (or non-refinements) offered by the closed version. We continue to find exposed carbon fibre wherever we look, and it is possible to spot some mechanical elements, such as the brake servo, at the driver’s feet.

Mechanically, the 4C Spider keeps the layout of the closed version, with a 1.75 Turbo engine producing 240 CV and 350 NM, paired with a 6-speed automated dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to the weight increase over the closed version being only 10 kg, the 4C Spider accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 258 km/h.

The launch of this version is planned for late spring or early summer in Europe. In the United States and Canada it will be somewhat later, reaching dealerships at the end of summer.
