All vehicles from Tesla now come standard with the Grok voice assistant as standard equipment.
The arrival of Grok in Tesla vehicles will allow owners of any of the brand’s vehicles to interact with the voice assistant to obtain general information on any topic.
As had been rumored for some time, Tesla has finally integrated the Grok voice assistant, based on artificial intelligence and developed by xAI, another of Elon Musk’s companies. Since July 12, all of the brand’s vehicles have been delivered to their new owners with Grok as standard, while those already on the road will receive this new feature through a software update -version 2025.26- over the coming weeks.
To enjoy Grok in a current Tesla, however, it must be less than 5 years old and include an AMD processor. Tesla began using these compatible processors in 2021, so if your vehicle is from a later year, unfortunately you will not be able to enjoy Grok. In addition, and as would be expected, an internet connection is also required, whether via WiFi or with the Premium Connectivity service that Tesla itself offers on all its vehicles for €9.99 per month.

To use Grok, drivers can select it from the app launcher on the vehicle’s screen or activate it by holding down the button on the steering wheel to issue voice commands. Unlike other artificial intelligence assistants, Grok does not control vehicle functions or the navigation system, keeping Tesla’s original voice command system unchanged. Its main function is to answer questions and offer conversational interaction, with voice and personality options ranging from “Storyteller” to “Unhinged,” allowing a personalized experience.
The alternative to ChatGPT
The integration of Grok into Tesla vehicles is a major step forward for xAI, since until now it could only be accessed from the xAI website or that of the social network X, as well as through apps for Android and Apple (iOS/iPadOS) devices. Grok stands out, according to Elon Musk himself, for its approach that is “fundamentally based on truth” and its rejection of political correctness, aligning with the vision of the head of Tesla and xAI to offer a direct and skeptical Artificial Intelligence that does not follow any specific ideological line.

The growing popularity of artificial intelligence assistants in vehicles is an already established trend in China, which is now beginning to expand to Western markets. Apart from Grok in Tesla vehicles, Google’s Gemini assistant will soon also arrive in vehicles of other brands that use Android Automotive in their infotainment system, such as Volvo.
