Amazing! Eighteen DeLoreans take shelter from Hurricane Dorian in Florida
Hurricane Dorian is a major storm threatening the coasts of Florida, and for this reason the owners of several DeLorean DMC-12s have sheltered them at the company’s facility

If you don’t recognize this car, you have probably spent the last 35 years living on a desert island without any contact with the human race. The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most popular cars in pop culture, because we all have in mind the image the Back to the Future saga gave us, in which a scientist turned this particular model into a functional and attractive time machine.
Not many units of this model were sold, but it is still one of those “rare” cars that have a large following, and you can still find several of them on the streets. That said, they are cars so highly prized by their owners that they take great care to make sure nothing happens to them.

For this reason, the owners of a DeLorean DMC-12 in the state of Florida have hurried to put their cars in a safe place. To do so, they have gone to one of the hangars the company still owns and parked their cars there before the arrival of Hurricane Dorian, a major storm that has frightened the area’s residents.
The company’s managers, who although they no longer produce vehicles still provide technical support to owners of a DeLorean DMC-12, have quickly offered their facilities to prevent the few units of this iconic model from suffering any damage. Even so, in the images they have published on Facebook you can count at least 18 units, which is no small number.

The DeLorean DMC-12 featured a stainless steel body and striking gull-wing doors that gave it a very distinctive look. The engine powering this model, created in 1979 and sold from 1981, was a 2.85-liter engine block that produced 130 CV and reached a top speed of 205 km/h.
It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, and only 8,500 units were produced, mostly for the American market. After financial problems, John DeLorean, the company’s owner, was accused of drug trafficking, and although he was acquitted of all charges, it was too late. The company had fallen into disgrace and, with it, its only production model.
Later the DeLorean DMC-12 was chosen to star in Back to the Future and became a cult object, sought after and cared for by fans of the saga. In 2007 it was estimated that there were 6,500 units, and some of them had been modified, with greater or lesser success, to simulate the machine in which Marty McFly lived his time-travel adventures. For now, at least, these units will be safe at home until the storm passes.
