Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4: 300 hp for the French PHEV

The new Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 will reach the market at the end of the year with a power output of around 300 hp.

The plug-in hybrid trend has reached Peugeot, as the French brand is launching its first PHEV: the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4. The goal of the new model is clear: to put pressure on rivals such as the Kia Niro PHEV or the Hyundai Kona PHEV.

The new Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 will arrive at dealerships at the end of the year. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid nature, the French SUV combines an electric motor with a petrol engine, so its combined output will be around 300 hp. This powertrain will be the same one fitted to its German-accented cousin, the new Opel Grandland X PHEV.

The Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 is the first in the family

This powertrain, developed jointly for the PSA Group, combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 198 hp with a 109 hp unit that drives both axles. As a result, the new Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 promises consumption of 1.3 litres per 100 kilometres under the WLTP homologation cycle.

The new plug-in hybrid engine of the crossover from the lion brand sends its power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the EAT8.

The manufacturer intends to expand its range of plug-in hybrid cars, as the Peugeot 3008 range is expected to welcome a new PHEV variant next year. This new version will have front-wheel drive and a combined output of 224 hp, thanks to a 179 hp petrol engine paired with a 108 hp unit mounted on the front axle.

Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid 4 A very reasonable electric range

The electric motor of the new Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 is powered by a 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, giving it a fully electric range of up to 57 kilometres. One of the most interesting points is that Peugeot claims the new model will charge in under two hours when plugged into a domestic socket.

300 hp is more than enough to say that the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 has a sporty character, and its performance backs this up: it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. These good figures don’t compromise its emissions, as the French model emits just 29 g of CO2 per kilometre. Therefore, these figures are sufficient for the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 to earn the ECO label from the DGT.

This is a top-of-the-range model, so its standard equipment is far from disappointing. The Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 comes with features such as standard leather upholstery, the i-Cockpit digital instrument cluster, and various driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The price is in line with this, as the starting prices of the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 will come close to 39,000 euros.

As we said earlier, Peugeot wants to expand its range of plug-in hybrid models, so the Peugeot 508 we tested a few weeks ago will adopt the same powertrain. In this way, together with the new Peugeot e-208 – the brand’s new electric city car – the French manufacturer will complete its eco-friendly offensive.
