Are you going to travel this Easter? Well, keep an eye on the new Guardia Civil super patrols

1,000 breathalysers, 700 drug detectors and 60 radars on 2,000 motorcycles. The Guardia Civil steps up the operational capacity of its motorcycle pairs during Easter Week

Super patrols. The new motorcycle pairs of the Guardia Civil’s Traffic Group have been carefully prepared to carry out their work even more thoroughly than before. 1,000 breathalysers, 700 drug detectors and 60 new laser radars are part of the new equipment that has been fitted to the agents’ motorcycles of the Spanish Civil Guard, as part of the kit designed to make their work on the road easier.

When we Spaniards head out onto the roads during these upcoming Easter holidays, we will be more “protected” thanks to the new super patrols that the Guardia Civil’s Traffic Group has launched with immediate effect in all Spanish provinces.

Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido presented the new road surveillance model that will now be implemented across the entire territory in which the members of the Guardia Civil’s Traffic Group operate.

The new “integral patrols” — as the Minister defined them — “are pioneering in Europe”. Thanks to their new equipment, the agents responsible for surveillance will be able to act more directly and quickly on some of the factors that most contribute to accidents on the country’s secondary roads, where no fewer than 8 out of every 10 recorded accidents in Spain occur.

Guardia Civil officers now have various portable devices that will allow them to more easily and autonomously check, without the need to resort to the attestation vans, speeding on the spot and carry out different types of tests to detect drivers operating under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The changes also affect the motorcycles, as 291 new motorcycles have been added to the existing fleet of 1,861 motorcycles in recent days.

Among the added equipment, the most eye-catching is the mini laser radar that officers will be able to use to detect speeding. The new speed cameras can act with greater immediacy. The measuring devices can be mounted on tripods. These will be placed at a set point, either on a tripod or on the guardrails, while the pair positions itself a few kilometres further on, waiting for the offender to reach where they are.
