Arkana: the new model that Renault is preparing for the C-SUV segment now has a name

The Renault Arkana will be unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show at the end of August and will reach different markets in 2019. It will be the new model in the C-SUV segment

The first and only partial image of the new model that the brand with the diamond logo already has ready for the C-SUV segment was revealed by Renault just a few minutes ago. At the Moscow Motor Show, which opens its doors at the end of this same month of August, Renault will display at its stand the practically definitive prototype of the new model it will launch on a global scale in the C-SUV segment throughout 2019. In principle, it seems that it will not reach the various European markets until late next summer.

Its size places it between the Captur and the Kadjar and adds a new silhouette to the French manufacturer’s range, which thus completes its crossover offering on the market, since until now it only had the first two and covered demand for this type of vehicle with different, more or less adapted versions of the Scenic MPV, whose sales will undoubtedly suffer with the launch of the Arkana, as will those of the Megane estate, given its crossover character.

In any case, the Arkana will not replace either of these two models but will offer the French manufacturer’s followers a model with a bolder, more daring design, as well as more striking shapes than usual in the crossover market.

Derived from the Latin word Arkanum, a term whose meaning serves both to describe events of special significance, such as an adventure, and to express the secret and mystery of something that remains closed and hidden. And that is what the Arkana has so far seemed to offer: secrecy and concealment. Because the partial image that Renault has provided along with the model announcement barely lets us glimpse the shape of its rear, very similar to the already known Megane, a model in which the letters of the name and the brand logo also “link” the design of its rear lights.

So, for now, the Arkana lives up to its name and will remain shrouded in mystery and concealment until the end of this month, when its cover is lifted at the Renault stand at the Moscow Motor Show. We will see whether it is possible to keep it that way until then, because for now the British magazine Autocar has already published the other two images we attach.
