Aston Martin delays its electric car until 2026
The market has changed, the brand says, and buyers of a Aston Martin model want to feel the power of a combustion engine.

Brands are preparing a good number of electric models, although not all of them are doing so at the same pace or with the same goal. The reality of the market is leading many of them to adjust their launch schedules. Many are sticking to their plans, but others are rethinking and making changes to launch dates. The reasons are varied.
Aston Martin had planned to launch an electric car in 2025. And, of course, it was not going to be just any electric car. A car with the luxury that anyone who spends their money on a model from the brand can expect. But anyone who wants to enjoy this model behind the wheel will have to wait a little longer. The British brand has announced that this model will not reach the market until 2026.

The company has said it has realised that the market has changed considerably since this electric model was announced. Apparently, demand for high-end electric vehicles, which is what Aston Martin will present, is not as high as expected. And it is not that no work had been done with this type of vehicle in mind.
To move forward, an agreement was signed with Lucid, under which the American company acquired a 3.7% stake in Aston Martin, and in return the company will be able to use the traction systems it developed for its electric models. But apparently demand has shifted towards plug-in hybrid cars.
So Aston Martin will delay the electric car and instead bring forward several models with plug-in hybrid engines, so that the market receives the type of vehicles it needs, before getting it wrong with an electric model. According to them, many drivers interested in Aston Martin cars want an electrified drivetrain, but do not want to lose the feeling that a combustion-engined car gives.
Thus, in the coming years the brand’s range will include several combustion-engined models, until their sale is banned, plug-in hybrids, and finally fully electric models. This way, it will be able to cover any need that arises, without giving up the qualities that have made the brand something legendary.
