The most sporty N models with combustion engines have their days numbered in Europe

Hyundai has been one of the manufacturers that has bet most on electric mobility, and once again it does so with this controversial decision that will surely generate plenty of discussion

With the aim of giving a new boost to the electrification of its range in Europe, the South Korean manufacturer has decided to end production of its most sporty combustion-engined models destined for this market. In this way, once the units left in stock have been sold, anyone who wants to display the Hyundai N series logo on a new vehicle in Europe will have no choice but to opt for an electric model.

According to the manufacturer, the i20 N and i30 N will remain on sale in Europe until the end of this year or until stock runs out. This means that once 2025 begins, all the high-performance N series models from Hyundai that can be found in the manufacturer’s catalogue will have a fully electric powertrain.

The IONIQ 5 N will be the first electric high-performance model from the N series to be sold in Europe. In Germany, the South Korean manufacturer has been accepting orders since the end of 2023, where it can be purchased from 74,900 euros. Based on the conventional IONIQ 5, this N series version features two electric motors capable of delivering up to 478 kW of combined power. Hyundai has also equipped this model with a larger-capacity battery pack, reaching 84 kWh, which, according to the manufacturer, makes it possible to travel up to 448 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle.

The South Korean manufacturer raises the bar

The IONIQ 5 N will thus be one of the most expensive vehicles the brand has ever sold in Europe in its entire history. At the company, however, they are convinced that the high level of standard equipment it offers will be more than enough to attract many new customers.

In 2022 the South Korean manufacturer presented two other new N series prototypes, the RN22e and the N Vision 74, the first of which is based on the IONIQ 6 we already know. As explained at their presentation, these prototypes will serve as test beds for the development of new N series production models, so it seems the IONIQ 5 N will not be alone in Hyundai’s high-performance lineup for long.
