The electric pick-up market is becoming increasingly active, and brands want to offer new models that combine efficiency with an attractive design.

Pick-ups are in fashion. They are trucks that take on anything and can become very attractive for getting around the countryside. A functional vehicle that can reach difficult terrain and fulfil a role in farm work. And now this type of vehicle is moving towards electric mobility. The Tesla Cybertruck has been unveiled as one of the most anticipated, but it is not the only one, as several similar models are arriving.

In 2019 the Atlis XT was presented, a prototype that was still in its first virtual form. Almost two years later, this young American company has presented the first physical, functional prototype. From one point to another it has undergone several important changes. From being a van with a more traditional look, it has moved closer to the more angular shapes of the Cybertruck, perhaps seeking a more futuristic style.

An efficient platform

The platform on which this pick-up has been built is called XP, has an in-house design and features a skateboard layout. Its design allows it to offer a motor at each wheel, which means it can move with great freedom. It can be configured with different types of suspension and steering to improve its efficiency for specific uses.

For now there are no changes to the pick-up‘s specifications. This means it keeps the different powertrain options and range, which goes from 483 to 800 kilometres, depending on the motor and battery capacity. Payload capacity ranges from 454 kg up to a more practical 2,275 kg. As for towing, it can haul from 2,268 to 9,072 kg with a tow hitch and even more, up to 15,876 kg if it uses a gooseneck system.

To charge the battery, the company has been working on a fast-charging infrastructure that will allow the battery to reach full charge in just 15 minutes. This charging system will begin rolling out across the United States in the near future, so it is expected to be available wherever the model is sold.

Interior and technology

The interior is dominated by a 12.5-inch multimedia screen. From it you can run Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as other vehicle functions that can be accessed in just three taps. There are two screens, one on each side of the steering wheel, which display the images captured by the cameras mounted on the sides of the truck.

It is important to note that this is a pick-up, a vehicle designed for work. This means all materials have been prepared to be easy to clean and quick to maintain. The price of the entry version of the Atlis XP will be 45,000 dollars, and production is expected to begin in late 2022, with deliveries from early 2023.
