Attention bimmers! The BMW M4 CSL could reach production in July 2022
The new BMW M4 CSL could go into production as early as July 2022. We can’t wait to find out more!

As you surely know, BMW M is almost ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and we are sure that the surprises the brand and its performance division have in store for all drivers will start arriving very soon. The first of them may be the production version of the BMW M4 CSL. Yes, you read that right: the brand could revive its legendary CSL badge.
The test mule is already out on the Nürburgring and has been caught by spy photographers on numerous occasions. It is worth noting that the Bavarian brand has only used the CSL badge on two of its models: the BMW 3.0 CSL from 1975, also known as the Batmobile, and the BMW M3 E46 CSL from 2003.

BMW M4 CSL: are we witnessing the rebirth of the CSL name?
This information was published on the specialist forum Bimmerpost, which claims the German carmaker will begin production of the BMW M4 CSL during the month of July 2022. Its debut could take place before the Munich Motor Show in September, although the Geneva Motor Show in March is also a good venue for its presentation.
The future BMW M4 CSL will be rear-wheel drive. It will drop the AWD system, which will significantly reduce its weight. It will use a 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine and will offer more than 503 CV, the output of the current BMW M4 Competition. Everything points to it delivering around 550 CV.

The gearbox will remain an eight-speed automatic, since a six-speed manual could not handle the extra torque, but we will have to wait a little longer to know for sure. Could engineers possibly reinforce the gearbox so that it can handle the torque? Production of the new BMW M4 CSL could be limited to 1,000 units, with a short production run, as the next generation of the BMW M4 would have to arrive in 2024.
The model could also feature an improved suspension, a very lightweight exhaust system and active aerodynamic elements such as a spoiler and/or diffuser.
