Audi A1 citycarver: the A1 for all roads
The new Audi A1 citycarver takes on a rugged countryside look with two aims: to offer a more customisable A1 that, in addition, allows drivers to tackle tracks and country roads with a degree of confidence.
With the Audi A1 citycarver, the German brand repeats a formula that many others have tried, not always successfully. It involves adding to the Audi A1 Sportback a specific exterior and interior decoration aimed at capturing features associated with SUVs, along with mechanical modifications to ensure it can be driven on tracks or roads in good condition.
Basically, this modification includes a suspension that raises the ground clearance. In the case of the Audi A1 citycarver, this is up to 40 mm more than the conventional Audi A1, of which 35 mm come from the longer springs and the rest from its larger wheels.
A1 citycarver design: looking at the Audi “Q”
Externally, the A1 citycarver inevitably recalls the Audi of the Q family. It does so through multiple details: the specific singleframe grille with a distinctive matt black mesh, two air intakes above the grille instead of the three found on the Audi A1 Sportback, newly designed wheel arches and sills in a contrasting colour, front and rear lower protections finished in aluminium-look trim…

The rear bumper is also new, with two prominent hexagonal air intakes. The exterior customisation is rounded off by the colour range, which offers a choice of nine body colours, with the roof in contrasting black or grey.
There are not as many changes inside, where the climate control vents, the lower part of the centre console and the door panels include contrasting-colour inserts. These can be mint green, copper, orange, grey or silver. The A1 Sportback’s roominess remains intact, as does its boot capacity of 335 litres.

As with the Audi A1 Sportback, buyers opting for an A1 citycarver can choose from the optional advanced, design selection and S line trim levels. The equipment configuration of the range, both standard and optional, is the same, although the citycarver adds the S line roof spoiler as standard, and the minimum wheel size is 16 inches.
The same applies to the driver assistance and infotainment systems, with the Audi virtual cockpit digital instrument cluster as standard, and the MMI Navigation plus system with a 25.6-inch screen as the top option.
On sale in September
Audi has yet to reveal the engine range the A1 citycarver will offer. But the buying guide to the new A1 Sportback we put together during the test drive of the new A1 at its national presentation will help you.

The entry-level model, the 25 TFSI with 95 CV, may be left out of the citycarver range, with the entry version being the 30 TFSI with 116 CV, with manual or Stronic gearbox. Above it, now with 4 cylinders and 150 CV, is the 35 TFSI, again with manual or automatic gearbox. And the top of the range would be the 40 TFSI with 200 CV, paired with the automatic gearbox. None of them feature four-wheel drive.
As an option, Audi offers the Dynamic package for the A1 citycarver. In addition to allowing wheels of up to 18 inches to be fitted, it includes adjustable dampers, brake discs with red calipers and Audi drive select with four driving programmes (auto, dynamic, efficiency and individual), although the latter can also be specified as a standalone option.

How much does the A1 citycarver cost? From 24,230 euros for the 25 TFSI, and from 25,410 euros for the 30 TFSI, which is 3,000 euros more than the equivalent A1 Sportback. It reaches dealerships in autumn, initially with an edition one version also for Spain, based on S line equipment and with specific decorative details.
