Audi A6 Avant TFSIe: the plug-in hybrid A6 is now also available as an estate

Audi expands its plug-in hybrid range with the estate version of the A6 TFSIe, the A6 Avant 55 TFSIe quattro, which delivers 367 CV of power and an electric-only range of 51 km.

All the elegance and versatility of the Avant from Audi now also comes in a plug-in hybrid version. This is the new Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSIe quattro, which is already on sale in the German market and will soon be available in Spain.

For now, the price for the Spanish market has not been announced. However, if we consider that the A6 Avant carries a premium of around 2,900 euros over the A6 saloon with the same engine and trim, the new Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSIe quattro would be just under 80,000 euros. The current price of the saloon is 77,040 euros.

The power of a sports car, the consumption of a city car

Technically, the Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSIe uses the same hybrid drive system as the saloon –which is in turn shared with the A7 Sportback PHEV– and is already available in two power variants: the 50 TFSIe, with 299 CV, and the 55 TFSIe, with 367 CV. For the Avant, for now only the most powerful variant has been announced.

The 367 CV (270 kW) of maximum power and 500 Nm of torque from just 1,250 rpm are achieved by combining the 252 CV (185 kW) 2.0 TFSI engine with a 105 kW electric motor integrated into the 7-speed S tronic gearbox. Power is delivered to all four wheels through the quattro all-wheel-drive system.

As in the saloon, the lithium-ion battery, located at the rear, has a capacity of 14.1 kWh. This allows an electric-only range of 51 km, with a top speed in EV mode of up to 135 km/h, sufficient for daily urban and interurban journeys. The battery can be recharged in about 2.5 hours using the standard mode 3 cable and a wallbox charging point with 7.4 kW of power.

Its plug-in hybrid status and its electric-only range grant it all the advantages of the DGT ECO label.

The homologated average consumption under the WLTP combined cycle ranges between 1.7 and 2.2 l/100 km, depending on equipment and selected tyres, with CO2 emissions from 41 g/km. As is usual with plug-in hybrids, this consumption differs from real-world consumption, since during the homologation cycle it benefits from the portion of the route driven in electric mode.

In terms of performance, with 5.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a self-limited top speed of 250 km/h, the A6 Avant 55 TFSIe is a sporty estate suited to long journeys. If integrating the battery in the saloon reduces boot capacity from 530 to 360 litres, in the Avant the luggage space reaches 405 litres (versus 565 in the combustion-engine versions), expandable to 1,535 litres by folding down the rear seats.

The A6 Avant PHEV’s equipment includes the predictive efficiency assistant, which lets the system manage both motors so that the final part of a programmed route can be covered in electric mode. Also standard are the S line exterior package, Matrix LED headlights, sport seats and the digital Audi virtual cockpit instrument display.
