Audi has unveiled the definitive version of the hybrid version of the A8, which will go on sale from 2012. It features a 2.0 TFSI engine and an electric motor that together deliver a power output of 245 CV and 480 Nm.

The two engines are arranged one behind the other, forming a parallel hybrid system. This allows the A8 Hybrid to travel at speeds above 100 km/h using electric power, or cover up to three kilometres in the city using only the electric motor.

All of this allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in about 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 235 km/h. Its provisional consumption is 6.4 litres per 100 km, which translates into emissions of 148 grams per kilometre.

The electric motor acts as a starter motor, with a output of around 54 CV and 210 Nm, and it uses a lithium-ion battery system weighing approximately 36.7 kilos. However, it is located under the boot, which reduces its capacity to around 335 litres.

Finally, the driver of the Audi A8 Hybrid can choose between three different driving modes: EV, D and S. The first gives priority to the electric motor, the second allows both motors to work together, and S mode provides a sportier driving experience.
