Audi prepares a 7.3 billion euro investment programme

For the year beginning in a few hours and running through 2012, Audi plans to invest around €7.3 billion to expand its model range, invest in new fuels and carry out major upgrades at its plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm.
Of that money, approximately 80% will be devoted to developing new products and to optimising conventional drivetrains, and to developing electric and hybrid models.
In addition, the already prolific brand will increase its number of models, from the current 34 to 42. This would happen by 2015 if things continue as they are with the newly announced investment plan.
If it has seemed for some time that Audi is growing excessively, this news confirms it. 42 models in a car brand’s catalogue is no small matter, and I would like to know whether it will not be more counterproductive than beneficial for the Ingolstadt brand.
