Audi R8 LMS unveiled

Back in August we reported that the German company was planning to launch a GT3 version of the Audi R8 for customer use, and just a week ago the sports car was spotted during performance tests.
The manufacturer has announced that the car will be available at dealerships from autumn next year with a starting price of 262,000 euros, including taxes.
Named Audi R8 LMS, it is confirmed to have a 500 hp V10 engine paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox of the kind used in racing, which sends power to the rear wheels.
The LMS will be seen in action in the 2009 season in various European racing series, and it is even mentioned that it will take part in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, for which Audi Sport will develop an endurance version of the LMS.
Audi has stated that it does not plan to enter any race with the new sports car, and around 8 customers will test their purchases in high-performance racing next year.
