The new Audi RS4 Avant has been unveiled: an estate with a 4.2 FSI V8 engine producing 450 CV and Quattro all-wheel drive

We kick off with the previews we should see at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, just a few weeks before it opens. Today we reveal the 450 CV powerful estate for taking the kids to school, which will be anything but ordinary.

The new Audi RS4 Avant features under its bonnet a powerful naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine with 450 CV and 430 Nm of torque, which is sent to all four wheels thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive with a crown-gear centre differential. It is the same engine found in the RS5, but the RS4 will only be available as an estate; there will be no saloon.

It is without doubt the most radical version of the Audi A4, and its standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, ventilated discs (optional carbon-ceramic discs) and the Dynamic Ride Control system, which adjusts the suspension to suit the more sporty role this model offers.

The chassis has been tuned specifically for this version, with aluminium components and a lower suspension than the standard A4. The brake discs are internally ventilated, measuring 365 millimetres at the front, while the calipers (in black with the RS logo) have eight pistons at the front.

Inside, the sporty character is present in its black interior with sporty references, carbon inserts on the dashboard and standout sport front seats.

Among the RS4’s performance figures, we can highlight its top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h (optionally it can be raised to 280 km/h) or its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 4.7 seconds (though it must be noted that the RS5 is slightly quicker in this respect, at 4.6 s). According to Audi, if we want more sporty starts we can activate the Launch Control, which manages the clutch to prevent wheel spin when setting off.

For the moment we do not know the prices for our country, but it will go on sale in autumn, and we are sure that after the 2012 Geneva Motor Show we will be able to tell you more about this radically sporty estate.
