Biodiesel made from municipal solid waste

biodiesel

A Spanish company has managed to produce biodiesel from municipal solid waste. Elecofasa expects it to reach the market in a year and a half, at a price of between 15 and 20 cents in the laboratory.

According to a press release, they obtain one litre of fuel for every ten kilograms of waste. The process is very simple. Its discoverer Francisco Angulo explains that a series of selected bacteria is applied to the mass of waste and, within five days, an oil is obtained which, once refined, can be used as fuel.

At present they are in contact with various bodies to secure the investment needed so that their product, “Ecofa” (the name the company gives to this biodiesel), can reach the market quickly. It is an excellent solution to the biodiesel problem that was causing the retreat of many forest areas.
