BMW and LEGO create the first flying motorcycle

The design teams at BMW Motorrad and the LEGO Technic team have created the first flying motorcycle prototype. This innovative concept is based on the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure model, a motorcycle built from 603 LEGO pieces.
The design teams at BMW Motorrad and LEGO Technic have unleashed their most creative side in developing motorcycles. Both brands have jointly created the first flying motorcycle prototype, named BMW Hover Ride. This concept originates from the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure model and marks the first time a LEGO toy has become a real-life version.

“What would happen if BMW Motorrad and LEGO designed a motorcycle together? What would happen if we challenged every limit of imagination with this model? So we brought the design teams together to take on a challenge that has resulted in this incredible prototype. The collaboration between the two teams was driven by the passion people have for both brands. It has been amazing to see how the teams worked together, but I don’t think either of them imagined it would turn out like this,” explains Andy Woodman, Senior Design Director at LEGO Technic.
The BMW Hover Ride features a two-cylinder boxer engine, a blue and black colour scheme, black spoked rims, off-road tyres and highly realistic exhaust pipes. In addition, the wheels have been removed from their original position to make room for a propeller at the rear, accompanied by a flight unit under the seat.

“Developing this motorcycle model from the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set was a great idea and a creative challenge. Our prototype not only incorporates the design DNA of BMW Motorrad, with typical elements such as the boxer engine and the GS’s distinctive silhouette, but is also grounded in the LEGO Technic style,” says Alexander Buckan, Director of Vehicle Design at BMW Motorrad.
It is worth noting that the BMW Hover Ride is only a prototype, and neither company – BMW Motorrad nor LEGO – has indicated any intention to produce it on a large scale in the future.
