The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro could feature a V8 engine producing 700 hp
The American manufacturer is still designing what will be the fastest Camaro in history.
The new Camaro Z/28 could introduce a V8 engine with up to 700 hp of power. The American sports car will be the fastest Camaro in history thanks to the introduction of several mechanical adjustments – such as an innovative flat-plane crankshaft and an aluminum engine block – as well as aerodynamic improvements. The model could reach the market in 2019.

For several months it was believed that the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE prototype would correspond to the new Z/28 generation. However, the American company recently confirmed that we were all mistaken; that concept was based on the new high-performance package the current Camaro ZL1 has received. Even so, Chevrolet’s designers continue working on the new version of the sports car, and if the speculation is correct, the wait will be more than worth it.

Everything points to the new Camaro Z/28 reaching the market in 2019. The American sports car could feature a naturally aspirated V8 engine delivering 700 hp of power. This new engine will be called the LT6, and the range would be completed by a twin-turbo V8 powertrain. Both powerplants will feature 5.5 liters of displacement, an aluminum engine block, direct injection and a flat-plane crankshaft. This component allows higher rotational speeds, a more immediate acceleration response and greater overall balance, which translates into engine rotation with far fewer vibrations.

The upcoming Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will be lighter than the current ZL1 1LE, and it is also expected to receive several updates to its bodywork and aerodynamics that would make it the fastest Camaro in history.
