BMW Serie 1 Sedans Range / versions
BMW launches its Series 1 saloon again, but only for China

We already know that major brands have set their sights on the Chinese market, creating new models or versions designed to be sold in this large Eastern country. One of the latest examples of this is the version of the BMW Series 1 that the German brand has developed based on the version we already know.
Designed to appeal to Chinese customers, this version has gone from being a compact to featuring a saloon body. It was designed in Germany but received input from engineers in the destination market. It is a larger version of the car, built on the UKL1 platform, which is also used by the Series 2 Gran Tourer and the crossover X1.
Same name, different look
The bodywork lines have changed, allowing it to become a three-box car with access through four doors. But Chinese buyers’ tastes are not limited to aesthetic changes; the engine has also been reworked, with the range of powertrains adapted to the driving habits of drivers in this country.
The Chinese market receives market-specific versions of the BMW models For now, no details have been given about the engine specifications, although it is expected to offer slightly higher capabilities than the model it is based on, as this model has a sporty treatment that places it above the compact.
The new BMW Series 1 will feature many of the elements present in the BMW Concept Compact Sedan, which was presented at the Guangzhou show in 2015. In addition to several bodywork details, the LED headlights seen on the concept are retained, along with the recognisable double-kidney grille that no model from the brand can be without.
In terms of equipment, there will be the ConnectedDrive infotainment system, which will be standard across all versions sold, as technology is highly valued in China. It will be manufactured, like other versions of the brand’s models, at the Shenyang plant.
