On May 28, the BMW M4 GT3 will debut a new livery to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the BMW M motorsport division.

Since its founding in 1972, the M division of BMW has produced some outstanding automobiles and has been a great success for the Bavarian brand. To pay tribute to that legacy, it will celebrate half a century with a special livery for its BMW M4 GT3 at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

The car will feature the classic M colours of blue, red and violet, which have been incorporated into a dynamic and modern design. The M logo and the number 50 have also been integrated into the design and will glow in the dark during the 24-hour race, thanks to a special laminated finish.

Founded in 1972 to handle the growing demand for engines and vehicles for motorsport, BMW Motorsport GmbH was first led by Jochen Neerpasch. A former official Porsche driver and race director of Ford in Cologne, he quickly attracted some of the best talent in motorsport, including Chris Amon, Toine Hezemans, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Dieter Quester, among others.

Thanks to the 3.0 CSL, BMW Motorsport enjoyed immediate success, winning races in 1973, its first racing season. The coupés took victory in their first race at the Nürburgring, the Grand Prix of Touring Cars, and then took the first step toward the same class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since then, the division has expanded into an ever-growing range of motorsport categories and road cars, but the desire to compete remains.

Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, has stated that “the Nürburgring and the 24-hour race are inextricably linked to the 50 years of history of BMW M. The fact that the Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 will start this race with a special livery in our anniversary year underlines this close association. The design, which incorporates our traditional BMW M colours in a very modern way, looks fantastic. We look forward to seeing the BMW M4 GT3 in this livery on the Nordschleife.”

The 24-hour endurance race at the Nürburgring will begin on May 28 and run until May 29. The BMW M4 GT3 will be driven by the official BMW M Motorsport drivers Jesse Krohn, Jens Klingmann and Alexander Sims, as well as Niklas Krütten.
