The BMW Serie 2 Gran Coupé of 2020 is inspired by the BMW Serie 1, which is why many drivers have trusted it: in the end it is just as attractive, or more so, and offers a bigger boot. This new member of the German brand’s 2 Series family is proving quite successful. It has a starting price of around 31,100 euros. This version features a 140 CV petrol engine and front-wheel drive. If you prefer rear-wheel drive, you will need to opt for the performance-oriented BMW M version. Yes, there are BMW models with front-wheel drive, but the good news is that you can always choose an sDrive or xDrive version.

Although the entry-level version of the newly launched Gran Coupé uses this 140 CV engine, drivers can choose between two petrol and two diesel versions. The BMW 218i has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, the same as the BMW 216d but running on diesel. The BMW 220d is also available, which is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine.

If adrenaline and that extra power are what you are after, you can choose the BMW M235i xDrive. This model comes with all-wheel drive and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds.

What is special about the BMW Serie 2 Gran Coupé?

This new German saloon measures 4.53 m in length, 1.80 m in width and 1.42 m in height. It is the brand’s first saloon with front-wheel drive, although sometimes costs have the final say. It has a low ground clearance, so the driving position sits close to the road.

The arrival of this new model, which is winning over many drivers, is scheduled for March 2021. The third volume, which houses the boot, catches the eye and is also proving very popular. It has the aggressive lines that fans of the Bavarian brand love. Its grille makes a strong statement, though not quite as striking as that of the recently unveiled BMW i4 Concept.

As for the interior, the new BMW is practically the same as a BMW Serie 1: it exudes quality and features a 9.2-inch touchscreen. The rear is slightly narrower, but the same is true of any compact car we are used to seeing. Two adults can enjoy a comfortable journey, but a third passenger might find things a bit tight. And here comes the highlight: the boot. It offers a capacity of at least 430 litres in five-seater configuration. If the rear seats are folded down, the capacity increases considerably. What can we say? We love it.
