BMW X6 2014, first details about the new generation

The BMW X6 has been with us for more than five years, since in 2008 the German brand bet on a new style of crossover, the Sport Activity Coupé. Although it is still too early to call a vehicle outdated, it is true that the X6 needs a refresh to keep up with its rivals, vehicles that have mostly been recently updated.

The BMW X6 is set to replace the current generation next year, just after the market launch of its new BMW X4, a model with which it will share much of its design though not its platform. Like today, the BMW X6 will be based on the third-generation X5.

The future X6 will have a silhouette similar to the current model, although the biggest difference will lie in the details, which are expected to be more aggressive. In addition, the 2014 version will have a slightly longer wheelbase, which will translate into more legroom in the rear seats. Overall, the crossover will be larger than its predecessor.

Under the hood, the BMW X6 will continue to offer six-cylinder variants in both petrol and diesel. For the most powerful versions we will find a twin-turbocharged V8 capable of exceeding 500 CV in the versions prepared by Motorsport. A Plug-in Hybrid powertrain is also set to be included, which is expected to reach the market in 2015.

It is still too early to talk about the official date of the BMW X6 presentation, but against all predictions, it is possible that it will be unveiled at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show.
