Bump: a social network oriented to the automobile

Bump is a new social network, supposedly aimed at getting drivers to interact with each other. The idea is to use car license plates as identifying markers for each member, where they can leave and receive messages, which is the only thing it does so far.
But its creators hope to integrate the social network with drivers’ consumption habits. Through technology that makes it possible to directly link each car’s license plate numbers with their owners, they will be able to check in automatically at hotels, access sporting events and even facilitate car rentals, among other things.
Now, just by looking at Bump’s advertising we begin to understand a little about where they want this to go. A kind of “social network of the streets”, so to speak. One more reason to forget that we are doing something much more important than seeing whether we can catch a glimpse of the license plate of the car that pulls over to the side and that blonde is driving: we are driving.
I don’t know how long this will take to reach Spain, if it ever does, since it is in beta phase, and the guys at Soft Hoy won’t be slow to point it out. But I echo what the author of the original article says at the end of it. No, thanks.
