BYD continues to showcase hybrids in Detroit

Despite the fact that the Chinese brand BYD gave the cold shoulder to the F3e, its efforts to bring a full range of hybrid cars and related technology to market will continue at the NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show). BYD will present two hybrid vehicles and a strategy that firmly steers the brand into the world of automotive environmentalism.

The two models they will present are the electric crossover e6 Premier and the S6DM, an extended-range hybrid SUV. The BYD stand will also feature the arrival of the lesser-known F3DM in its US debut, along with a showcase of solar energy solutions, its phosphate battery technology, various electric motors, home energy storage systems and LED-based lighting systems.

The e6 Premier is a five-seat crossover, equipped with phosphate batteries that give it a range of about 300 kilometres (we are still improving it). The announced top speed is 140 km/h, and battery charging takes about 40 minutes using a “fast charger”, or 6 hours when connected to a standard household socket.

As for the S6DM, it is announced as the first all-wheel-drive extended-range vehicle. Its range is “more than 60 kilometres” on battery power alone. When the 2-litre petrol engine is connected, the range reaches 480 kilometres. The electric drivetrain features two motors, one at the front and one at the rear, rated at 10 and 75 kW respectively.
