Guangzhou Automobile gives new life to the Alfa Romeo 166

It has been four years since the Alfa Romeo 166 was taken off the assembly lines of the Italian brand, but now the GAC Trumpchi has been born, a new creation of Guangzhou Automobile, the umpteenth new Chinese manufacturer that from now on establishes itself as such. The result is a completely redesigned Alfa 166.
The GAC Trumpchi has been changed to Eastern taste, now closer to the Toyota Camry or the Honda Accord than to its Italian origins, but the venerable 2.0-litre TwinSpark engine remains, which now produces 148 CV, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, with an automatic gearbox option. The idea is to launch the car in six different variants, with some possibility of exporting it to other countries.
This model is a reality thanks to a joint venture between Fiat and Guangzhou Automobile, which initially was only interested in buying the rights to manufacture the 166 and its production line. Despite being a perfect opportunity for Fiat to gain a new partner in China, the new brand has reported that its interest in the 166 is only as a launch model for the brand and not as a line to follow in the future. Guangzhou’s idea will be to design its own cars and its own technology in the near future.
