BYD Song L: the new model arriving at the end of 2023
The production version of the BYD Song L, unveiled in China, will arrive on the European market during the fourth quarter of 2023 with all-wheel drive and design improvements

In a remote corner of the Xinjiang region of China, known for its scorching deserts and majestic mountains, the most rigorous tests are being carried out on one of the most anticipated vehicles of the year. This is the BYD Song L, a mid-size SUV that has generated great interest in the Chinese market, and its arrival in Europe is expected soon. Recently, we were able to catch a small preview of this SUV, the Song L, in action, undergoing high-temperature tests in the city of Turpan, where temperatures can reach up to 80 degrees Celsius.
The BYD Song L has been under heavy camouflage to keep its secrets, but even so, we can make out some changes compared with the concept presented at the Shanghai Auto Show. In its production version, the fastback SUV features traditional side mirrors instead of the modern cameras permitted by Chinese legislation. While these cameras could have improved aerodynamic efficiency and increased its range, BYD has chosen to remain faithful to physical mirrors.

The front has also undergone some modifications, with a less aggressive bumper and a more discreet spoiler. The headlights keep their shape, although the LED sections inside them look different. From the rear, we can see that the BYD Song L has adopted a more sober approach, doing without a sporty diffuser.
A new design for the best technology
Although there have been changes to the design, the essence of the Song L has remained intact. With a sloping bonnet line, sloping D-pillars, door handles that are retractable, a low waistline and an elegant rear light unit, the Song L has a stylised, modern look. Although the exact dimensions have not been revealed, we know it will remain within the range of 5 metres long, around 2 metres wide and with a wheelbase of approximately 2.9 metres.

Beyond its design, the BYD Song L comes equipped with cutting-edge technology. Built on the e-platform 3.0 architecture of BYD, it features a CTB body-integrated battery and electric four-wheel drive 4WD and the DiSus-A air suspension system, delivering optimal performance and a pleasurable drive. The combined power of its fully electric version reaches an impressive 530 CV, a figure that will undoubtedly offer an exciting driving experience.
The exact price of the BYD Song L is still a secret, but it is expected to sit at around 40,000 EUR. The company plans to launch the vehicle on the Chinese market during the fourth quarter of this year, and it is expected to arrive in Europe in 2024.

The BYD Song L is undoubtedly a demonstration of BYD’s commitment to innovation and electric technology. Facing the extreme challenges of the scorching Xinjiang desert, this electric SUV promises to exceed expectations and take sustainable mobility to a higher level. With its elegant design and its cutting-edge performance, the Song L positions itself as a worthy contender in the growing electric vehicle market, and will undoubtedly be one of the stars of the year in the automotive industry.
