Calls grow for urgent renewal of the PIVE Plan

The PIVE Plan is entering its final stretch. Since it began offering aid for the purchase of efficient vehicles on 1 October last year, the available funds of 75 million euros are almost exhausted. A question mark now hangs over whether the PIVE will continue.
In this regard, the main Spanish automotive sector associations (Anfac, Aniacam, Faconauto and Ganvam) have moved ahead of events and have called for the PIVE Plan to be renewed with a separate budget allocation to keep what is left of the Spanish automotive industry moving.
The request still has an uncertain future. Continuity appears assured, according to what Minister José Manuel Soria has often said. However, it must be borne in mind that a new budget must be approved to keep the PIVE Plan running.
So far, the effects of the PIVE Plan have been beneficial for brands in terms of customer footfall at dealerships. But brands do not live on passing traffic; they live on car sales. And until now the PIVE has not got the market moving. Perhaps once the pending vehicles are delivered and the slow processing of applications improves, figures will rise as they should have since October.
