Canoo offers the United States Army an electric van

Electric vehicle manufacturer Canoo has built a variant of its electric pick-up that is designed to serve on military missions.

Apparently, many security forces around the world that are working with electric vehicles are not very satisfied with their performance. Apparently, the range and charging time of these vehicles are not practical at all when it comes to chasing the bad guys. But, despite this, the US Army remains interested in adding this type of electrified transport to its fleet.

So Canoo has offered the country’s army a test model to be evaluated and potentially incorporated into the US military forces. The Canoo LTV is a version of the pick-up that the brand has developed, but it has been modified to suit the use the army may make of it.

To begin with, it has improved the power offered by the original vehicle. This one will have an output of 373 kW, equivalent to 500 CV, while the vehicle intended for the army will have 447 kW, equivalent to 600 CV. It will have all-wheel drive and its 32-inch off-road wheels, together with its raised suspension, will allow it to move with ease over difficult terrain.

The LTV features aesthetic and functional changes compared to the original model. Among them, we can find a single cab, in which a modified bumper can be seen. At the rear, changes are also noticeable, such as the reinforced bed and a body adapted to military use.

In this case, Canoo says that the driving modes have been modified to make the vehicle quieter, and both the cabin and the battery have been protected. Kevlar fibre has been added to the bodywork and to the pick-up’s fragile points. The rear bed can be replaced by a cargo box or by various accessories if necessary. The Canoo electric vehicle could be used as transport or as a camping base, if that use is required.

This electric vehicle joins the Hummer EV as a possible component of the US Army’s fleet, so little by little we will be able to see electric vehicles in service. Will they be as effective as required in these circumstances?
