Alfa Romeo will unveil the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante at Geneva, as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the original model, presented in 1952.

Alfa Romeo will show at Geneva a 2012 version of its historically famous Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante, a special model that was presented back in 1952, when a Alfa Romeo 1900 was “tuned” by a coachbuilder of the era called Carrozzeria Touring.

Getting down to business, the Disco Volante that Alfa is preparing for 2012 is based on the styling and underpinnings of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and celebrates the 60th anniversary of the original model of the Disco Volante, with the bodywork handcrafted, perhaps emulating the old series of the earlier model.

The new Disco Volante will possibly boast the 8C’s great engine, the 4.7-litre V8 producing 450 horsepower with paddle-shift gearbox, which is most likely, although Alfa Romeo has not given details of the model, which we will only have in a few more days.

I have to say that the 2012 Disco Volante I like quite a bit more than the classic model of those years, which is rare for me… However, the convertible version of that model has been recognised by collectors as one of the most beautiful vehicles ever built. Some say it inspired Jaguar for later models, but it is clear that the truth will never be known.
